It has a serial # AK954931, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, over 70 years ago. Description: These were top of the line machines, made from the 1930’s Thur the 1950’s. This model was one of the most sought after model of its day, and has often been described as one of Singers best. They can easily sew heavier fabrics like Sunbrella, upholstery fabrics, light to mid weight leather, as well as sheers etc. They were often seen in tailor shops as an alternative to a large industrial machines and some still are today. The 15 series machines have a straight thread path from the bobbin case and can handle a heavier weight bobbin thread than it’s 201 counter part. This was the most widely imitated machine on the market, after the patent ran out, with numerous clones coming from Japan, China, Germany and elsewhere. 15-91 Specifications: This machine has a heavy cast iron body. It is a Straight stitch machine with full reverse feed and adjustable stitch length. It takes low-shank attachments with easy screw-on feet that are very readily available, using a standard 15×1 sewing machine needle. The potted direct drive motor provides near slip free power and has no belt to replace. It has a longer arm than most domestic machine of this era giving a great area for large or bulky projects approximately 8 ¼” long by 6″ high under the arm. This machine has consistent stitching at any speed. It has a reliable singer rear mounted light. The stitch lengths range is from 6 to 30 stitches per inch and performs flawless. Details: This machine with a serial number of AK954931dates this machine to May 26,1952. It sews just as it should. The shiny jet black finish is in great shape, although not mint with very few dings or pin scratches here and there. The decals are also very nice and quite near complete. The appearance of the machine is bright and shiny. This machine has been cleaned, covers removed, gears lubed and moving parts oiled. The foot pedal has been cleaned and wiring checked, and the motor greased. It was professionally tuned and sew tested. This machine uses standard 15×1 needles and 15 class side load bobbins. Be sure to use the right needle size and point shape for the fabric you are sewing. A nice original set of attachments are included in original green box. Included: Manual Adjustable rufflier Multi-slotted binder adjustable hemmer (blackside) edge stitcher Narrow hemmer gathering foot Adjustable cording / Zipper foot Small Screwdriver and to get you started Extra bobbins Original singer size 14 needle pack of 3 Oil bottle Needles: Be sure to use the right hemmer needle for the material being sewn. This machine can handle needles 9-18 size needles. Manual:The users manual describes how to oil and lube, use the attachments and adjust the tension for different fabrics. An original Singer manual is provided and does have a bit of wear. I mostly use UPS Ground for heavier bulky and fragile items. You machine will be appropriately packed.
