Our sewing machine repair consultant worked for Singer for YEARS. He verified that this is a heavy duty / industrial grade machine, good for sewing denim, leather, etc for personal projects or as a cottage industry (not in industrial amounts). He said that in the sewing world, this machine is called a “clone” of the Singer 15 machine. At the end of WWII the US government gave the Japanese the blueprints to the Singer 15 sewing machine to help rebuild Japan’s economy (and Singer was no longer making them). And the benefit is that these clones have upgrades from the original Singer machines – they run smoother and have extra features like reverse stitch, zig zag, an easy switch to raise and lower the feed dogs, etc. They are work-horses, and often quite beautiful like this one! The strong all metal machine is great for any of your sewing projects like denim, thin leather, canvas, or for lighter weight dressmaking fabrics. She zig zags, has reverse function, work light, adjustable stitch widths & lengths, feed dog lowering for darning & free motion, and uses class 15 bobbins – easy to find! Built in zig zags as well as 24 drop-in cams. She is a left-homing machine, meaning during straight stitch the needle sits to the left of center, which some say has an advantage as more of the fabric is under the foot, so the fabric feed can be even better, and you can see more guide markings on the needle plate. Her finish has some chips and rubs, but nothing that takes away from her use or her cool vintage style. The wood case is solid with normal age wear to the finish and some cute newer updates. Lots of extras included: attachments, bobbins, needles, 24 zig zag cams, spool pin felt, pink seam ripper and accessories box.
